Trip Tally is a simple tool for splitting group trip expenses. This page explains what information the app handles and how.

What information Trip Tally stores

When you use Trip Tally, you enter:

That's it. Trip Tally does not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any account to use it — there is no sign-up or login.

Where this information is stored

By default, everything stays only on your device, in your browser's local storage. Nothing leaves your phone unless you explicitly turn on the "Share this trip" feature.

If you choose to share a trip, that trip's data (people, expenses, settle-up status) is synced to a Google Firebase/Firestore database so it can update live across everyone's devices. Anyone who has the shared link can view and edit that trip's data — there is no password or login on shared trips, by design, so your group can jump in easily. Don't share a trip link publicly if you don't want others accessing it.

What Trip Tally does not do

Third-party services used

Trip Tally is hosted on Google Firebase. When you share a trip, its data is stored in Google's Cloud Firestore database, subject to Google's Privacy Policy. No other third-party services are used.

Your control over your data

Children's privacy

Trip Tally is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from children.
